Thousands of dollars are spent for purebred cats and dogs only for them to end up in shelters or rescues. 30% of shelter animals are purebred. I have always wanted a Sphynx cat but didn't have the extra money to spend on a single animal with all of the rescue work we do. But, I have one now, thanks to the local animal shelter. Left to fend for himself, a product of divorce, ignorance of the breed's needs, or whatever story you can imagine, he was picked up as a stray wandering the streets. Sick and scared, he was held for the mandatory time to see if his owner would claim him. We were told he hated cats, then we were told he hated dogs, but we brought him into our loving home and he has flourished. Healthy and happy, he finally has a home he can be himself in.
